Where does one even begin when contemplating a journey around our extraordinary planet?
To know why we embarked on Travelling Planet Earth. We need to go back a little bit to discover who we are and our reasoning for starting this adventure.
Whether you’re on the cusp of your thirties or well into your seventies, there’s a universal curiosity about what lies beyond our familiar horizons and how to explore it. We weigh our age, health, and life’s perceived achievements. We mourn the loss of friends and family. Navigate the shifting dynamics of raising children who now grapple with their own existential questions or for those without children we yearn to roam.
The reflective phase of life
In this reflective phase of life, we often pause to reassess what truly matters.
This introspection, though perhaps deeper than expected for a travel blog named Travelling Planet Earth serves as a pivotal moment for many: the decision to travel. Some envisage that one ultimate bucket list adventure to a dream destination they’ve long coveted. Others find solace in the comfort of proximity, preferring the cherished routine of road-tripping to a beloved local getaway only two hours from their home teeming with nostalgic memories.
There are those of us who crave exploration beyond the familiar
Then there are those of us who crave exploration beyond the familiar. Like ourselves, we embark on journeys to immerse ourselves in diverse cultures, savour unfamiliar cuisines, and connect with the vibrant local personalities behind sometimes inaccurate media portrayals. But before the excitement takes over, a swirl of doubts and questions often emerges: Can we truly undertake this adventure? What will it cost? Can we afford it? Can we do Travelling Planet Earth? perhaps most pressing, can we physically manage the demands of travel? Be it climbing a volcano or navigating rugged terrain on a motorbike to get to an isolated beach?
Birth of A Blog, Socials and a YouTube Channel
These uncertainties are precisely why we’ve decided to launch both this blog (TravellingPlanetEarth.com) and a YouTube channel (Coming soon). Now in our fifties and driven by our own desire to see the world. We share the same questions and aspirations. Our goal is to demonstrate that travel is achievable, and additionally providing a transparent look at the financial and physical realities involved. We aim to present a raw and authentic portrayal of travel, not just the picturesque waterfalls and Instagram-worthy sunsets. Focusing more on the gritty reality of travel days. Highlighting language barriers, street food experiences (both delightful and challenging), and budget accommodations around $50 Australian per night.
Our Adventures Begins: A Round-the-World Backpacking Trip
Our Travelling Planet Earth journey begins with a soft landing in Asia. After departing from Australia, we’ll start in Bali, easing into our travels with a six-month stay. Our approach is slow travel. Spending a week or two in each location. Perhaps a month in larger cities to truly absorb the essence of each place. We’ll venture further North, in Asia, during the Indonesian December monsoons. Before returning to complete the first phase of our exploration of the larger Indonesian archipelago.
Creating the Travelling Planet Earth website and YouTube channel from scratch feels akin to starting a blank canvas painting. We have a vision in mind, but know it will evolve. Taking on a life of its own as it grows. This Endeavour I hope is not merely a travelogue but a source of inspiration and insight. Especially for others considering their own adventures.
As we embark on this journey. We embrace the uncertainty of what lies ahead for both the blog and our travels. Here’s to the adventures and unknown that await us on Travelling Planet Earth.
Our Story: A Prelude to Exploration
In early 2020, just before the world was jolted by the blip (pandemic), we outlined our travel aspirations. While our plans have since adapted, they remain fundamentally rooted in a slow, purpose-driven exploration.
Our original goal and the basis of our travel
Hello, we are Lynn and Scott Jarman. Although we haven’t scaled Mount Everest, traversed the Sahara, or swum the Thames in a mermaid suit. (though we know someone who has). Our travels have taken us to many remote and remarkable places. Through our lens, we’ve sought to capture the essence of Earth’s diverse landscapes, cultures, and communities.
As avid travellers and photographers, our focus is on visually stunning landscapes, captured during thoughtful, unhurried exploration. We aim to document not only the scenic beauty but also the essence of the people we encounter. Their cities, celebrations, and daily lives.
Our travel ethos? Imagine a grand journey encompassing the top ten sights in every country. Blending cultural treasures like major galleries and museums, UNESCO natural wonders, heritage sites, and secluded natural destinations. We chronicle each destination’s story, from local interactions and authentic food experiences to markets and, occasionally, high tea. We travel primarily by our own vehicle but embrace local transport within cities. Capturing the blue hour each morning and the golden hour each evening. Our projects include a daily portrait series “One Day, One Face,”, and “The Sky Project,” a drone photography Endeavor.
